A couple of hours later our vehicle, still moist from the falls, sank into its watery pitch for the night. Our first taste of Iceland’s many majestic water features was quite literally that, as huge volumes of sun-lit mist smothered the path behind the thundering falls. We’d reached Seljalandsfoss as the sun was setting and managed a quick visit to the impressive 200ft waterfall. After stopping at a supermarket on the city’s periphery to stock up on four days’ worth of food and booze, we had set off, heading east. We had picked up the transit van, loosely modified as a living space, from Reykavik, Iceland’s tiny capital, the day before.
